Who should a website be optimized for?

Q:  Is it better to optimize your website for the end user or for the search engines?

A:  The short answer is BOTH. If your site is not optimized for the search engines, you probably can't be found as easily as you'd like and if your site is not 'user friendly' you won't create stickiness to your site. End users will not click through for the information you wanted to provide or the sale that you hoped to make.

One example of optimizing for both is this page. While consumers (users) love to watch brief videos, as seen by the success of YouTube and similar video sites, the search engine can't really crawl your video to determine and index its content. Therefore, we've listed in the page title and heading what this particular page is about. Then we give a paragraph above offering a brief explanation of what you can expect to find in the following video.
