The 301 status code means that a website page has permanently moved to a new location.
Why might you use a 301 Redirect?
You've moved your site to a new domain
Your site can be reached through several different URLs:
http://mysite/home
http://home.mysite.com
http://www.mysite.com
You are going to merge two websites and you want to ensure that links to outdated URLs are redirected to the desired pages.
Choose only one of the URLs as your canonical destination, and then use 301 redirects to send traffic from the other URLs to your preferred URL.
